About Pulp Explosion

Pulp, exploded.

Monsters, detectives, crime, vigilantes, the supernatural — colliding on the same page. Pulp Explosion isn't another capes-and-tights small press; we publish character-driven, action-packed genre mashups rooted in the great traditions of pulp fiction. Old-school thrills, brand-new stories.

We exist because the old path didn't work. Faced with the herculean odds of getting creator-owned comics through established publishers, Patrick Coyle founded Pulp Explosion in 2022 to forge his own. Teaming with award-winning creators, Patrick has delivered Bixby Grant, Private Eye through a string of successful Kickstarter campaigns — with more titles on the way.

Great comics are a team sport, and Pulp Explosion is built on the talents of award-winning collaborators — including Eisner-winning cover artist Rafael Albuquerque; editor Heather Antos, a Hugo, GLAAD, and Eisner Award winner; and the Bixby Grant art team of illustrator Gonzalo Martínez and colorist Arthur Hesli. The result is books with the polish of a major publisher and the freedom of an independent one.

Patrick has indie comics in his blood. He co-founded and published Komikwerks.com (alongside Shannon Eric Denton), a pioneer of online comics publishing that partnered with Stan Lee on the digital subscription service Stan Lee's Sunday Comics and reached readers around the world through AOL's entertainment portal. Komikwerks published work by Eisner winner Keith Giffen, comics-and-animation visionary Dwayne McDuffie, Blue Devil co-creator Dan Mishkin, Batman and Swamp Thing artist Tom Mandrake, and Absolute Batman artist Eric Canete — among hundreds of others.

Two decades later, that same instinct drives Pulp Explosion: put great creators first, and give readers stories worth holding onto.
